• Research the company with the BBB and make sure their address is in the DFW Metroplex.
• Use third-party sites like Angie’s List and the North Texas Roofing Contractor’s Association to validate how long they’ve been serving the area and their local address.
• Make sure their customer reviews are local to the DFW area.

Roofing contractors are not licensed in Texas so there is nothing stopping someone with a truck from coming in, replacing as many roofs as possible and then disappearing. If they’ve done a good job, then the homeowner is lucky. However, if there is a problem with the materials or workmanship, the homeowner may find themselves calling a disconnected phone number and having to pay for repairs that should be covered by their warranty.

Seeing is believing

Visiting a job site yesterday in far North Dallas, where the most recent windstorm hit the hardest, I actually saw a roofing company with a temporary sign outside a formally vacant building and an RV parked outside where the people were living. I can’t help but be concerned for the people who are using this contractor. I’m not making this up. It’s really happening in our own backyard. With the help of the internet, it doesn’t take long to do research before ever signing a contract or paying money. It will be well worth your time.
